Colleague Comment:
After my last CL Mailing, May 31st,

suggested I ask readers to let me know
what books you are reading right now.
I thought it was a good idea, and so I am
asking you to send me your feedback and
I would be pleased to share your comments
in my CL mailing next week.

COLLEAGUE COMMENT
John Griffith,
Calgary, AB
After reading Colleagues List, May 31st, 2015 -
http://tinyurl.com/notku6q
Enjoyed the preview of Barbara Brown
Taylor's book "Learning to Walk in the Dark.'
It got me thinking. I would like to know what
other people on this list are reading. This might
be an interesting feature for the summer to ask
your readers what one book they are reading or
have read recently that they would recommend
to others on the list. It's not that I need more
books to read, rather it shows the breath of
exploration in the arena of spirituality."
Just a thought.
Blessings for the summer,
John

WISDOM OF THE WEEK
Provided by Sojourners
and Bruderhof online:
If you want to identify me, ask me not
where I live, or what I like to eat, or
how I comb my hair, but ask me what
I am living for, in detail, and ask me
what I think is keeping me from living
fully for the thing I want to live for.
- Thomas Merton
--
When Christ said, "I was in prison and you
visited me," he did not draw a distinction
between the guilty and the innocent.
- John Paul II
--
If you want to go fast, go alone.
If you want to go far, go with others.
- African Proverb
--
People do not choose rebellion;
it is forced upon them.
Revolution is an act of self-defense.
- C.T. Vivian
--
The poet Stifter once said, “Pain is a holy angel,
who shows treasures to (men) which would
otherwise remain forever hidden; through him
(men) have become greater than through all the
joys of the world.” It must be so and I tell myself
this in my present situation over and over again.
The pain of suffering and of longing, which can
often be felt even physically, must be there, and
we cannot and need not talk it away. But it needs
to be overcome every time, and thus there is an
even holier angel than the one of pain; that is,
the one of joy in God
- Dietrich Bonhoeffer
--
Where you have absolute solutions, you have
no need of faith. Faith is what you have in the
absence of knowledge. The reason this clash
doesn’t bother me any longer is because I have
got, over the years, a sense of the immense
sweep of creation, of the evolutionary process
in everything, of how incomprehensible God
must necessarily be to be the God of heaven
and earth. You can’t fit the Almighty into your
intellectual categories.
- Flannery O’Connor
--
Do not look for Jesus away from yourselves.
He is not out there; he is in you. Keep your
lamp burning, and you will recognize him.
- Mother Teresa
--
The sad truth is that most evil is done by people
who never make up their minds to be good or evil.
- Hannah Arendt
--
You don't think your way into a new kind of living.
You live your way into a new kind of thinking.

CLOSING THOUGHT - Henri Nouwen
I am with people who are poor in spirit. They teach me that being is more important than doing, the heart is more important than the mind, and doing things together is more important than doing things alone.
